Tiananmen Square
Huge. Millions fit. October
1999 marked the 50th anniversary of the Communist victory. The
square was so crowded with the parade and dignitaries and
participants that it was blocked off to citizens. I am at the
gate of the forbidden city.
At bottom is a view of the square
with the ubiquitous cabbages. Citizens of Beijing store cabbage
and Chinese onion for winter vegetables, even within the Palace.
